Accounting and audit involves a systematic way of recording, presenting and reviewing financial data and account records. An internship in this field is often immersed in computing, classifying and recording numerical data to keep an accurate and complete record of business finances and transactions. Interns may be provided with an opportunity to contribute in the analysis of business operations and trends, expenses, revenues and other financial reports. Mathematical, statistical and financial models may be demonstrated to prepare and analyse reports and financial statements.
The role requires knowledge of principles of accounting, auditing, financial analysis and banking procedures. It entails attention to detail in completing work tasks, and appreciation of the value of compliance to policies and confidentiality. TASKS WITHIN ACCOUNTING & AUDIT
Maintain financial or account records by performing data entry tasks, doing calculations, preparing invoices and billing, posting and verifying financial transactions.
Establish and assign a table of accounts and entries. Prepare, examine and analyse records and financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance to timeline, standards and procedures.
Provide assistance with cost analysis, budget preparation and the use of development management tools to assess financial performance.
Prepare reports from data source. Assist in identifying patterns and discovering weaknesses in internal practices and procedures.
Study and evaluate operating procedures, systems and reports to ensure integrity and reliability of data, and compliance with established standards. Verify and analyse records and reports. Prepare audit findings.
