Management Consulting involves carrying out research and data collection to understand an organisation’s direction. An internship in this field provides a learning experience in conducting analysis and interviewing the client’s employees, management team and other stakeholders. Prepare business proposals, presentations and identify issues and form hypotheses and solutions.
Interns will need to be able to present findings to clients and provide recommendations and solutions to implement and ensure clients receive the necessary assistance to carry them out. This role requires skills in business management, commercial awareness, project management and leadership techniques.
TASKS WITHIN MANAGEMENT CONSULTING
Provide a company’s management team with a framework for making effective decisions about their business direction. May participate in initial meetings with the company’s management team to establish the requirements of the consultancy project May also prepare proposals and carry out research, analysis and assessment of growth scenarios and options. Provide insight on effective planning strategies. Evaluate existing documents, including vision, mission statement and business plan to assess the company position. May promote internal change campaigns to notify employees of changes and buy-in from critical personnel. Develop a rubric for a leadership decision-making process. Assist in identifying and developing strategies to help leverage critical capabilities. Determine growth strategy by evaluating current opportunities in the market and identifying potential revenue streams.
Build and execute marketing and social media strategy through competitive and audience research. May participate in setting up and optimizing company pages within each social media platform. Set up and optimize company pages within each platform to increase the visibility of company’s social content. Monitor marketing projects and analyze results. Developing and implement a marketing strategy according to objectives and budget. Provide support to by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data and metrics, insights and best practices; then act on the information. Conduct market research to identify industry trends and commercial opportunities. Liaise with the marketing department and external vendors. Provide support in conducting focus groups and facilitate workshops.
Advise management on the administration of Human Resources (HR) policies and procedures. Analyse a company’s current HR programs and recommend competitive solutions. May develop, revise and implement HR policies and procedures. Provide support to ensure HR programs and services are in compliance with established policies and procedures according to country laws and regulations. Prepare and maintain reports related to specific HR projects. Assist with the development and coordination of recommended changes regarding workflow and processes. Develop methods for compiling and analyzing data for reports and special projects. Conduct audits of HR activities to ensure compliance. May present training sessions related to specific HR programs.
Analysing technology requirements within companies and giving independent and objective advice on the use of IT structures. May develop agreed solutions and implement new systems. Provide support on presenting solutions in written or oral reports. Coordinate meetings with clients to determine IT requirements. Work with clients to define the scope of a project, plan timescales and the resources needed. Design, test, install and monitor new systems, preparing documentation and presenting progress reports to customers. Provide support with organising training for users. Coordinate sales and support, and where appropriate, maintaining contact with client organisations. Identify potential clients and building and maintaining contacts.
Assessing company’s financial status and analysing investment plans. Assist with sourcing and evaluating capital expansion options including loans and funding. Provide forecasting costs and revenues. Conduct risk analyses for financial plans and evaluating capital expansion options. Collaborate with project teams and resolve accounting issues for new products and system. Monitor inventory for stock accounts, prepare status reports for all fixed assets. Provide support for managing billing of all contracts ensure accuracy in same and perform evaluation on a regular basis. Develop various internal control programs and maintenance program for same. Maintain records of accounting transactions and evaluate results efficiently. Assist with analysing accounting process, identifying issues and performing research on all solutions to ensure efficient workflows. Maintain journal entries and all ledger accounts and ensure reconciliation of all statements. Perform regular analysis on accounting issues and resolve it efficiently.
