J1 Internship Visa Process
J1 Visa Details and Timeline
- J1 Visa or Exchange Visitor Visa is a non-immigrant visa for skilled labor that allows you to participate in internships and other traineeship programs within the US.
- The entire process starting from placing your application, review from visa sponsor, formal submission and interview could take up to 12 weeks or more. Hence, it is advised to proceed with the visa process as soon as you commit to the program.
Eligibility Criteria for J1 Visa
- Submit a full application, for an internship directly related your academic field of study and successfully pass our Zoom Interview
- Currently enrolled full-time in a degree or a professional certification program in a college, university or other post-secondary academic institution of higher education outside the USA or have recently graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months before the program start date.
- Completed at least one year of your degree program including academic coursework in your field, and have not recently completed a degree and/or optional training program (OPT) within the USA
- Able to apply for a J-1 visa outside the USA. To do this, you must not have recently spent a significant amount of time in the USA on a visa or tourist waiver.
Application Process & Our Support
- Submit a full application: Successfully pass our Zoom Interview and start the process of interning in your academic field of study.
- Review and Sign Your DS-2019 Form: Submit your DS-2019 Form that checks your eligibility to intern in New York. Afterwards, we proceed your application with our visa sponsor, who ensures proofreading and makes it ready for processing.
- Receive Your SEVIS ID: You get your SEVIS ID once you obtain approval from our visa sponsor. You’ll receive an email from our visa sponsor with your ID number and payment, both required to start your visa application.
- Complete Online Application & Schedule Your Embassy Appointment: With your SEVIS ID, you will visit the Department of State’s Consular Electronic Application Center to fill in and submit the DS-160 Non-immigrant visa application. Once you’ve done this, you’ll schedule your interview at your local U.S. embassy or consulate.
- Receive Your Visa & Get Ready To Intern in New York: Once you receive your visa, shortly you’ll receive an onboarding booklet from us that will cater to anything and everything you need to be ready to start interning in New York!

Are internships paid in New York?
All our internships over 6 months in New York will be paid at least the national and state minimum wage. However, we cannot guarantee paid positions for any New York internship shorter than 6 months.
What kind of companies are available for internships in New York?
That would depend entirely on your internship preferences, your performance during the interview, and the duration you have applied for. Our standard selection of companies ranges from startups across various fields like technology, finance, etc and NGOs supporting various causes.
Once you successfully pass our Zoom interview, your resume will be presented to our partner firms that match your career aspirations and you will have the opportunity to speak with your future Supervisor and employer. If you are not satisfied with the company you have been provided with, we can provide you with additional company options for you to choose from.
How long does the process take for the New York program?
Our internship procedure takes about 4 months from you placing your deposit to arriving in New York.

What are the eligibility criteria to qualify for an internship in New York?
Here are the basic eligibility requirements for the New York internship program:

If you have successfully passed our interview and have received an offer to join, you will need to pay a deposit of £600 to secure your spot. The deposit will be deducted from the total program fee. The remaining amount will be split into two payments. The first payment is due once you have accepted an internship offer. The final amount is due once you have received your J-1 visa.
How do I make a change to my internship in New York?

Can I change the company once I start my internship?
Unfortunately, that is not possible. As stated previously, your internship in New York commences after a long procedure of applying for a J1 visa which demands tying your company details along with your application. This cannot be changed once you receive your visa and start your internship in New York.
